bike2eth

Some things simply need to be done... Especially under circumstances of perfect weather forecasts and a decent 15°C night ahead...

Therefore, we met in the beautiful Rhine Valley in eastern Switzerland. We met at midnight. On bikes.

We (7 Rhine Valley folks now studying in Zurich) spent all night cycling from Buchs SG to Zurich. First, we cycled up to Wildhaus - what a great night view over the Rhine Valley! Then, the descent through the deserted Toggenburg as the moon rose over the mountains as we slowly left such behind. After a short break at the train station in Wattwil, we climbed up Ricken. From there, a long downhill with a view over lake Zurich gave the legs some time to recover. As the sun started to rise, we were riding along the shore of Greifensee. What a breath-taking dawn! In the end, we headed into the city of Zurich (some straight to ETH, others home first) just in time for a well-earned shower and a decent breakfast! From there, we went off to sleep, work, study, experiment in the lab etc.

From Buchs SG to Zurich, on the bike from midnight until 7.30am, roughly 100 km in distance and 1400m descent and 1300m ascent. Great cycling in the beautiful Swiss Alps and lowlands!
