Singapore - What a city! A country of just an island located in the midst of Southeast Asia. And what a contrast from that one island of international, modern, organized life to the surrounding countries. The high-tech and cleanliness of the place might have impacted even more strongly on me as I was coming from Africa and going to Malaysia. With all that working and traveling with unknown events around every corner, I especially enjoyed the ordered life in Singapore. Going out for a drink until late just by yourself without anyone worrying about it, wandering along the water front of the freshwater reservoir, taking the subway at any time to go any place, going for a stroll at the Gardens by the Bay, ordering an espresso or just wander up and down busy shopping streets wearing a pretty dress felt very enjoyable. I've always liked buildings and there are plenty of such in Singapore. Old colonial style houses and modern skyscrapers in all shapes. The main shopping street downtown is definitely impressive, even for Swiss standards.
We flew in and out of Singapore and spend about a day each in the city. An additional night was spent in Singapore in between the diving and the trekking mainly to exchange gear at the hostel, which served as basecamp.
